One-time National Football League Player Antonio Brown Files Not Guilty Plea in Murder Attempt Charges
Former NFL player Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to confront an murder attempt accusation related to a shooting that happened in May, with his lawyer entering a innocent declaration on his behalf.
Correctional records in Essex, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was released on Tuesday morning for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous athletes in the NFL, had forgone transfer to Florida from New Jersey, where he was held after being arrested in Dubai.
Brown’s lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, stated in an email that he has already lodged a formal innocent declaration to the attempted murder accusation. Brown could be in a Miami court as early as Wednesday early for a bond session, Eiglarsh stated.
As per his apprehension order, Brown is alleged of seizing a handgun from a safety employee after a star boxing bout in May and shooting a couple of bullets at a individual he had fought with before. The claimed victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told police that one of the bullets grazed his throat.
Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was simply defending himself from Nantambu.
“The steps he was obliged to take were solely in self-protection against the alleged individual’s aggressive actions. Brown was attacked that night and acted within his lawful right to protect himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not promptly detained because originally officers did not recognize Nantambu as a target. It only later in May that Nantambu provided a full testimony about the incident to police and identified Brown as the perpetrator, the affidavit indicates.
From his digital updates, Brown had been staying in Dubai for multiple weeks. In a update after the incident, Brown stated he was defending himself because he was “assaulted by multiple persons who sought to take my possessions and inflict personal damage to me.”
A level two attempted murder accusation in the state of Florida bears a maximum 15-year incarceration term and up to a $10,000 fine in the event of a finding.
Brown has dealt with several court challenges over the years. He previously had been alleged of physical attack of a delivery driver, multiple domestic violence charges, failure to pay parental support and additional occurrences.
Throughout a 2021 game with Tampa Bay against the New York Jets, Brown took off his shirt, shoulder pads and accessories and exited the arena, causing his termination by the franchise and practically concluding his professional journey.
Brown, who spent twelve years in the National Football League, was an All-Pro receiver who spent the bulk of his time with Pittsburgh. Throughout his career, Brown had nine hundred twenty-eight catches for above 12,291 yards, the twenty-eighth greatest of record. He was a 7-time all-star choice.
