Vehicles in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a individual who found a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Cars, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the case" and have appealed to the community for details.

A high-ranking representative commented the attack left him stunned and required to be solved promptly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter focusing on people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
